Texas Hillsong
I wish I was a hawk a-flyin’
over the golden hills of Texas
I would see so many things
like I never seen before.
Hares a-leapin’, snakes a-lyin’,
scorpions a-multiplyin’
cattle grazing on the grass
then oh! a-so much more!
************
If I were a hawk a-floatin’
over the golden hills of Texas
I would float as wide and free
as the Texas sun.
Chase the Pecos river flowin’,
go wherever the wind was blowin’,
and cast my shadow on the hills
until the day was done.
************
Oh when I see a hawk a wheelin’
over the golden hills of Texas
my hawkish soul flies up to greet ‘im,
in secret brotherhood.
Above the world we share the feelin’
of nothing but some clouds conceilin’
our view of the horizon line,
to the cheering of our blood.
************
And when I say my last goodbye
to the golden hills of Texas
I will shed a silent tear
for the land which I adore.
Then the bluebonnets and prickly pear
the juniper and leapin’ deer
will join the hawks with my song
and sing forevermore!
